Food waste and plant bi-products are innately designed to return to the earth, decompose, and to create new soil and support healthy ecosystem function. Plants, fungi, microbacteria, insects (worms are our favorite of course), and a host of other important creatures need healthy soil to survive. Not to mention we need healthy soil to grow healthy foods! At the end of the day, you are what you eat and plants are too. Better soil, better plants, better food, better you! Compost is just one step towards creating a healthy lifestyle and eliminating the need for waste landfills. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!
Throughout the week, you will collect scraps just like any other program. Then, seal it up tight...because it's going for a ride! If you feel like getting out and unwinding a bit, bring your bucket to the market! The Mills 50 Community Market is just a hop, skip, and jump away from Audubon Park. While there you can eat a good meal, try out some locally-sourced honey (you won't be able to go home without some ), take in some music, and just relax amongst like-minded peers. Go ahead! Take a load off! Just don't forget to take home your new clean bucket!
